Population

The San Angelo Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) population 1/ increased from 72,117 in 1970 to 111,823 in 2010. That was an increase of 55.1 percent.

The foreign-born (FB) population increased from 1,085 in 1970 to 8,359 in 2010. That was an increase of 670.4 percent. The foreign-born share changed from 1.5 percent to 7.5 percent.

The share of the overall population that was native-born (NB) increased by 45.7 percent.

Sources of Population Change

The primary sources of population change are:

The first chart below shows the three population change factors for three periods adjusted for annual average amounts. Natural change (B-D) was the primary factor in adding population in the first two periods, replaced by NDM in the latest period.

The second chart shows the same data but with an adjustment to reflect births to immigrants shifted to NIM. In it, the same pattern of added population applied as in the unadjusted factors.
